Year Camps
Welcome to 2009. Late in 2008 you should have received information in the mail regarding the Year camp for your daughter if she is in Years 8 - 10. Consent forms need to be returned as soon as possible, especially for the Year 8 camp. They can either be sent to school or given to your daughter’s tutor.
Outdoor Pursuits Program
There are many fantastic activities on offer for Terms 1 and 2. Please have a look at the information and enrolment brochure which is on the St Hilda’s website or from Outdoor Education and we look forward to seeing lots of girls getting involved and staying active! Activities begin in Week 2 except for Yoga and Windsurfing that will begin in Week 3. Keep your eye out in the Newsletter for other exciting new adventures that will come up throughout the year – especially for Dads!
Year 8 Coral Bay Adventure and Year 9 Shannon Horseback Adventure
Thank you for the overwhelming response to the Coral Bay and Shannon Horseback adventures. These trips are now full. Ruby has sung opera, oratorio and given recitals across Europe and USA with some of the best conductors (Sir Colin Davis, Riccardo Muti, Michael Tilson Thomas, Antonio Pappano, Yehudi Menuhin), orchestras (London Symphony Orchestra, The London Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony), accompanists and fellow singers (Bryn Terfel) in the world today. In 2003 she was awarded an MBE for services to music. Born in London, she studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Curtis Institute, Philadelphia. She won the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Award in 1993. Her CD recordings are numerous and varied in repertoire and include works by Britten, Beethoven and Mendelssohn. Former Glory Soccer Team – Grand Final Success, at last!
In case you didn’t know, a brilliant St Hilda’s five-a-side Soccer team has been playing together every week on Monday nights for many moons at Lord’s gym in Subiaco. This team of SH staff and parents have made it to five grand finals over the last four years and we won our first match of this kind on 14 December 2008. Having won the league, Former Glory beat the two-time previous champions 7-2 in the grand final. The team has been graced by the skills and exuberance of the following players over these four years: John Davis, Roy Woelke, Ken Ashford, Kingsley Brown, Russell Smail, Steve Carey, Karl Guest, Steve Petsos and Tim Chapman. Former Glory continues to display its silky skills and moves, but now at Scarborough PCYC.

The swimming camp was held on 28, 29, 30, January 2009 with 80 girls participating in a variety of activities. All girls performed at a high level, concentrating on their skills, speed and fitness in the pool. A highlight of the camp was the final day team building activities at Challenge Stadium which reinforced the importance of working together. Another highlight was the underwater filming and technique analysis session which was run with the WAIS biomechanists. Thank you to all parents who assisted during the week; your commitment and hard work is very much appreciated. Congratulations to the girls for their hard work and excellent training.
Swimming
The Interschool Carnival is fast approaching and training is underway. All girls are welcome to attend training whether their goal is to improve their fitness or to make the team. Girls who are aiming to make the swimming team are required to attend a minimum of three sessions each week in addition to competing at the swim meets.
