On Thursday 23 February, 40 Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts students with their teachers and art technicians set off for the inaugural Art and Design Retreat at Yeagarup Campus. While on route, the students were lucky enough to visit the Northcliffe Gallery for a guided tour of forest site specific sculptural works, ‘Understory,’ and meet Old Scholar and the Gallery’s current Artist in Residence, Megan Evans. Her exhibition of very contemporary china painting set the creative tone of what was to come – six creative sessions in two days.

Arriving at Yeagarup Campus, everyone was awestruck by the beauty and intrigue of the natural and built environment. The students hit the ground running collecting and photographing botanicals and organics for sketching that evening. The following days were filled with a myriad of art, design and photography activities; as much as they could fit in. The Art Department staff were so proud and impressed with how all students were committed, immersed and engaged in the ideas, techniques and processes presented to them.

“The Nest” made the best art room ever. Yeagarup Campus truly was perfect for an Art and Design Retreat.

A huge thank you to our amazing, inspiring staff who made this event fun, artistically challenging and joyous: Eliza Leano, Michelle Hyland, Lisa Young, Teresa Richards, Marilyn Morin, Georgina Cresswell and Stuart Montgomery.
