Australian Army Cadets

In it’s second year, St Hilda’s is offering Australian Army Cadets as a Year 9 - 11 cocurricular option in 2019. Australian Army Cadets is a youth development organisation that aims to develop skills in decision-making, leadership, planning, public speaking, resilience and working in a team environment. The St Hilda’s Anglican School Cadet Unit (SHASCU) was in 2018, the first all-female Army Cadet unit in the country.

Students committed to the Cadet program will be required to participate in:

  • Friday Training (Parade) 3.30pm – 5.30pm – Term Time (Bay View Campus)
  • T1 – Recruit Weekend (Northam Training Area) 23 - 25 February.
  • T2 – Field Exercise (Bindoon Training Area) 8 – 10 June.
  • T3 – Navigation Exercise (Bindoon Training Area) 17 - 19 August.
  • AFX – 8 day training exercise with all WA Cadet Units (Bindoon and Northam Training Areas) 28 September - 5 October.

Students are expected to commit to all of the aforementioned activities. There are also a number of Leadership Opportunities for Cadets to proceed up the ranks.

The Bindoon & Northam Trainings Area are located 90 minutes north and north-east of Perth (respectively) and transport to and from the area will be via chartered bus. This year, SHASCU will work closely with the Christ Church Grammar School Cadet Unit (CCGSCU).

Cadets are permitted to wear their Cadet uniform during the school day on Fridays. Standards of dress have been outlined in previous correspondence. Cadets are provided uniforms and equipment by the Australian Army Cadets however, there will be some small incidental uniform requirements that will be available from the School Shop. SHASCU t-shirts can be purchased online at the subsidised amount of $35 by clicking here.

A $400 levy for each cadet will be raised to cover transport and rations, for each of the three training weekends in 2019 and is available via an online form. This amount will be charged on a term-by-term basis. All other training, including the 8 day field exercise, is fully covered by Australian Army Cadets.
