During St Hilda’s Boarding Week, Principal Fiona Johnston spent a night in the boarding house with the students.
Mrs Johnston has always wanted to experience life as a boarding student, often asking her parents during her school days if they’d allow her to become a boarder, despite living close to school.
From the 3.25 pm bell until the following morning, Mrs Johnston was officially a St Hilda’s Boarder. Highlights from the evening included cheering on the girls playing dodgeball in the Roger Goode Centre, enjoying the delicious dinner in the dining hall (which was a one-off special pyjama theme), and hanging out with many of the girls across the year groups. Speaking with the girls gave Mrs Johnston true insight into the experiences and day to day life of our boarding students.
Below you’ll find some highlights from these conversations with Mrs Johnston and the students.
Mrs Johnston had an incredible time, but more importantly, it was a fantastic way to see first-hand the wonderful community that is St Hilda’s boarding. There is no surprise as to why we are a finalist in the 2021 Australian Education Awards – Boarding House of the Year.
