The Ignited Minds Committee has been an enlightening journey, especially as we focused our collective efforts on understanding and addressing the complexities of the Ukraine war this past year. Dedicated to making a difference, we organised fundraisers for the Rivne school in Ukraine, selling lolly bags and cupcakes at our school. Our quest for awareness led us to crucial conversations during lunchtime with Natalyia, a lab technician in the science department and a Ukrainian native. Her personal stories provided a poignant backdrop to the severity of the conflict, motivating our fundraising initiatives.

In a stroke of fortune, we had the privilege of meeting a family from Ukraine and the Ukrainian ambassador of Australia. These encounters expanded our perspectives and fuelled our commitment to the cause. This committee also opened doors to meaningful connections across the country and internationally. Engaging in video calls with Rivne students allowed us to contribute to their education by improving their English skills, fostering friendships, and helped alleviate their anxieties and agony that comes with times of war.

Participating in the Ignited Minds Committee equipped us with essential life skills, from event management and time coordination to effective collaboration and research. Personally, it has been a journey of self-discovery, revealing my true passions and sparking a sense of purpose. Through this committee, we not only contribute to alleviating the impacts of global issues but also cultivate skills that will serve us well within and beyond school life.
