Cross Country Champions
Friday 25 August
The Junior School celebrated an unexpected win at the Champion Schools Cross Country event in Week 5 at McGillivray Oval, Mt Claremont.
Thirty-seven students in Year 3 to Year 6 were part of the St Hilda’s first-time winning team, which finished ahead of 25 other Primary School teams from around the state.
Strong performances by Year divisions led the team to victory, with the Year 4 and Under finishing in first place.
The Year 5 team finished in second position and the Year 6 team third, giving St Hilda’s a large winning margin.
Year 4 student Alex Fleming placed 14th in the 2km Girls Year 4 and under event, and Year 6 student Busola Oyewopo finished ninth, earning both girls places in the State Squad.
Physical Education teacher Ms Clarke said she was extremely proud of the team.
“We are exceptionally proud of the effort made by all of our students who competed on their pupil-free day,” she said.
“They have trained very hard with some students running up to three times a week, so they deserve every success that came their way.
“Although we had some wonderful individual results to win overall is a huge team effort, and as a group they should feel very proud of this achievement."
