Little learners meet the mini beasts
Monday 12 June
It’s not every day you get up close and personal with a mini beast but the opportunity was not lost on our Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Pre Primary students this week. Thanks to Spineless Wonders and some parent helpers, the children got the chance to learn about spiders and insects in the classroom and were able to observe and touch a wonderful selection of living invertebrates.
According to teacher Trish Jakovich the incursion was a great opportunity to learn about animals the children wouldn’t normally see and understand their importance in the natural environment. “Often young children absorb through story books that insects and spiders are to be feared or are scary but we want them to have a correct understanding of their role in the environment and be respectful to this huge group of animals.”
