Fine-tuned year ahead
Monday 8 May
It keeps getting better and better for Year 11 student Emmalena Huning, who continues to expand her list of impressive achievements.
Emmalena was presented the Award for Excellence in achieving her Licentiate Diploma with Distinction on violin. This follows her completion of Grade 6 Musicianship at the end of last year.
Furthermore, she won the J B Vincent Memorial Award for Best Licentiate in Music (Australia) candidate in 2016 which was presented on 12 March.
However, there’s no time to relax just yet: she has just entered a national competition where she has the opportunity to play with a full concerto orchestra.
“I’ve entered the National Youth Concerto Competition in Queensland, so I have my recordings in May,” she said.
“Hopefully I get through to the finals!”
Emmalena was also invited to be the Concertmaster for the WA Youth Orchestra (WAYO) this year, which is a co-leader position with a UWA graduate.
As part of WAYO, Emmalena will lead an important concert in July when the world famous Russian Maestro, Vladimir Verbitsky, will be the guest conductor. His program includes Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, which contains a significant leader's solo for Emmalena. She is already looking forward to this enormous challenge and opportunity.
We wish Emmalena luck with the coming months and can’t wait to hear about her experiences.
