Old Scholars Outreach Program making the call
Wednesday 15 April
St Hilda’s Old Scholars Association have introduced a new initiative; the OSA Outreach Program to support the vulnerable and elderly old scholars. With over 100 volunteers already signed up the aim is to keep those who are over 70 years old, isolated and asked to stay at home, connected through regular phone calls.
The volunteers, located locally, interstate and overseas will take 10 minutes out of their day to give an Old Scholar a call, check in with them and ensure they are doing well. It might also be an opportunity to swap stories about the school, learn about family connections and childhood memories.
“The program ensures they have frequent interaction with someone who cares or who may be able to run errands where possible. With all of the regular calendar events cancelled, including the Mother’s Day Bazaar, Bridge and Mah-jong Day and many reunions, this program will at least provide our old scholar community with something to look forward to during these unprecedented times,” OSA President Treffina Dowland said.
The program will continue over the coming months and depending on the participation, may continue as a permanent event.
