National Development Squad
Our National Development Squad is designed for athletes aged 12 – 15 who have shown an ability to perform at a State level in addition to having aspirations of qualifying for National Age Championships. This squad may also include high school level school swimmers and triathletes.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The core factors regarding selection into the squad are:
- Commitment
- Current ability
- Potential Improvement/Talent Identification
Age: Generally 12yrs – 15yrs
Commitment: Commitment to the program will be negotiated by the Squad coach. It is expected that swimmers in the National Development squad are competing at State level, and in most cases, targeting National level qualifying times. This may include Open Water swimmers and triathletes.
Current Ability: All State Qualifiers from previous season will be invited into the group, provided they are willing to commit to regular attendance.
Potential Improvement/Talent Identification: The final criteria is subjective, and allows the coach to identify athletes who he/she believes will ultimately qualify for National Championships (or equivalent) by the time entries are due. These criteria will include, but are not limited to; training history, training ability, skill levels, and rate of improvement, motivation and commitment.
REQUIREMENTS
Equipment: 2L bottle of water, Snorkel, DMC Fins, Kickboard, Pull Buoy, Band, Hand Paddles, St Hilda’s Swim Club Cap, Goggles, Stretch Cord, Skipping Rope and Mobility Equipment (Roller, Spikey Ball).
Health and Injury Management: With the training load expected by National Development athletes, it is important that athletes undertake physio screenings, blood tests and attend health sessions as required. It is vital that this informational is communicated to the coach to ensure an appropriate management pathway is implemented.
Uniform: All Squad members are required to wear the uniform set forth by the head coach to all competitions.
