Catherine Taplin is Vice President of People for Development & Technology at Rio Tinto. In this global portfolio Catherine leads the people function for the areas of exploration, studies, major construction projects, safe production system, technical group, Office of the Chief Scientist as well as the decarbonisation and innovation and science teams.
Catherine graduated UWA with a Bachelor of Economics and an MBA. With over 25 years of experience at Rio Tinto, Catherine has worked in executive and leadership coaching, generalist HR, employee relations, learning, talent management and succession planning, divestments, and HR operational readiness. She is passionate about diversity and ensuring success of women and other underrepresented groups in the mining industry. Her career includes global experience in Australia both in remote mining locations and Brisbane and Perth, Canada, Guinea in West Africa, USA, and the UK.
