About Dr Mendel Baba (1997)

Dr Mendel Baba is the Head of Department (Podiatry) and Coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Foot Ulcer Clinic (MDFUC) at Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group where she leads a team of 12 Podiatrists. Prior to this she held a clinical leadership role in the Podiatry Department at Fiona Stanley Hospital and has also previously held clinical positions at Royal Perth Hospital, Swan Districts Hospital, and Caulfield Hospital and Health Service in Melbourne.

She holds a doctorate degree in podiatry from UWA. Her doctoral thesis was titled “The Foot in Diabetes Mellitus: Epidemiological and Educational Aspects”, where she investigated prevalence, incidence and associates of diabetes related foot ulceration as part of the Fremantle Diabetes Study and conducted a novel investigation of the effect of diabetes foot care education on foot health outcomes. As part of her postgraduate qualifications, she participated in education and training at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) and the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA) in Tucson, Arizona. She was a clinical examiner for the Podiatric Medicine Unit at UWA and is involved in teaching podiatry students in the hospital setting.
