As the school year swiftly draws to a close, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on the exceptional theatrical talents that are in abundance here at St Hilda’s. From the young members of our Junior School to the seasoned performers of our Senior School, our students have graced the stage with their singing, dancing, and acting, leaving audiences utterly mesmerized.
First on our theatrical journey was the Year 6 Production of “Porridge,” a breathtaking spectacle that brought beloved nursery rhyme characters to life while entangling them in a captivating mystery. In Happy Valley, a crime spree is afoot—Ma Hubbard’s recipe book has vanished, Marigold the cow has been kidnapped, and Papa Bear harbors a dark secret within his Porridge empire. Enter Private Detective Jack Spratt, whose mission is to unveil the spine-tingling truth in a tale of mystery, mayhem, and breakfast cereal.
Watching our Year 6 students take the stage with the confidence of Broadway stars is an absolute delight. At St Hilda’s, we provide our Junior School students with the opportunity to participate in grand stage productions, igniting their passion for performance and setting them on a path to explore their talents further in Senior School.
Next in our theatrical showcase was the Year 7 and 8 production, “The Seussification of A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Peter Bloedel. This imaginative reimagining transported the whimsical essence of Dr. Seuss into Shakespeare’s most beloved comedy. With two zany narrators guiding us through the antics of mixed-up lovers in a forest filled with whoosh bush tush beasties and fairies duelling with bumballoon swords, this rhyming adaptation unveiled what Shakespeare’s magical tale might have been like if Dr. Seuss had put his creative touch on it.
Then, our Senior School students and dedicated Drama Department graced the stage with an electrifying rendition of “Mamma Mia! The Musical.” Our students truly proved themselves as the Dancing Queens, infusing every scene with their boundless energy and passion. Taking a chance on this production paid off!
Our cast, crew, and band joined forces to deliver a Super Trouper performance, complete with stunning costumes, enchanting sets, and mesmerizing lighting that transported us all to Greece for an unforgettable night. At St Hilda’s, we hold a steadfast belief in the unifying power of the arts and their ability to inspire creativity. This production stands as a testament to that belief, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made it possible.
As we bid adieu to this musical journey, we thank you for the music and the everlasting memories. Keep dancing, keep creating, and continue making our school community proud!
