Now in its eighth year, the St Hilda’s Cadet Unit continues to lead the way as the second all-female cadet unit in Australia and the only independent private girls’ school in WA to offer this unique cocurricular program to students from Years 9 to 12. As a member of the Australian Army Cadets, students engage in leadership, planning, risk-taking, and personal development experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

Through hands-on experiences in an outdoor setting, our cadets enhance their creativity, problem-solving, organisational skills, and intellectual development. The ability to plan and execute scenarios that require adaptability to unexpected challenges distinguishes this program from conventional classroom learning.

We proudly congratulate Darcie de Pledge (Year 12) on her recent promotion to Cadet Under Officer and appointment as Unit Adjutant, following her successful completion of the Senior Leadership and Instruction course for Army Cadets. At last Friday’s parade, Amelia Harrison (Year 11) and Ari McGlew (Year 9) were also promoted to Cadet Corporal after completing the Junior Leader’s course in January. Amelia was named dux of the course among over 80 participants from across the state. Congratulations also to Mrs Sheridan on her promotion to Second Lieutenant and her formal appointment as Army Cadet Staff.

Looking ahead, we are excited to expand the Cadet Unit and offer even more opportunities for our students to challenge themselves and grow. Whether it’s outdoor expeditions, community service projects, or leadership development, the future is bright for our St Hilda’s cadets.

This year’s program includes joint training weekends with Christ Church Grammar and Guildford Grammar, Anzac Day activities, and continued upskilling in first aid, communication, and navigation, all led by our senior cadets. Students are welcome to ‘come and try’ any Friday afternoon. For more information, please contact renee.sheridan@sthildas.wa.edu.au.

We are incredibly proud of our students’ dedication and achievements in the Cadet Unit. Their commitment to learning, leadership, and service exemplifies the St Hilda’s spirit, and we look forward to seeing the next generation of cadets continue this proud tradition.
