As we close the chapter on another incredible Term at St Hilda’s, we take a moment to reflect on the laughter, learning, and love that filled our school halls. From the buzz of the science labs and the harmony of the music room to the entertainment from the Performing Arts Centre, every corner of our School was alive with the efforts of our students.

This Term, our girls took their minds to new heights. 

Innovation Think Tank – Under Mrs Merchant’s leadership, five Year 11 students, Stella, Ally, Angelie, Miaand, and Rani, pitched their solution on the topic: “How might we improve the accessibility of mental health services for young people, ensuring that they can easily find, access, and utilise the support they need, regardless of their location, background, or financial status?” After winning the preliminary round, the students entered the Grand Final at Royal Perth Hospital on September 12. 

Year 9 ESSTEAM project – As part of their ESSTEAM curriculum this Term, our Year 9 students established a unique product in the beverage market. When crafting their drink, students were required to uncover their Unique Value Proposition (UVP) and challenged to secure the most significant market share! Critical decisions involved choices on their product, selling days, price points, branding, and marketing strategies!

Foodie Fiesta Cooking and Carve and Create With Hale – This term, Year 10 students from St Hilda’s & Hale School had the unique opportunity to engage, interact, and connect through the Carve and Create and the Foodie Fiesta Cooking program. This coeducational program is part of our exciting new initiative, which helps develop social and interpersonal skills while using teamwork.

Tournament of the Minds – Minds collided in a spectacular display of creativity, problem-solving, and innovation at the Tournament of Minds this Term! Teams from various schools came together, armed with intellect and imagination, ready to tackle the challenges head-on. The atmosphere was electric, with participants buzzing with ideas and strategies. Each challenge was a test of mental agility, requiring quick thinking, teamwork, and the ability to think outside the box. A huge congratulations to our incredible Year 6 team for their outstanding victory at the Tournament of the Minds, earning 1st place🥇

Concerto Night Concert – We started Term 3 with our Concerto Night Concert, an evening of unparalleled musical elegance with the enchanting melodies of our Music Department’s most anticipated formal event of the year. The night celebrated our Music students’ hard work, creativity, and love for music from the first note to the last. It was a reminder of the power of music to bring people together, to move us, and to inspire us.

Sydney Dance Company visits St Hilda’s – Our Junior and Senior dance teams, along with Year 9 and 10 dance students, were lucky enough to dive deep into the art and technique of contemporary dance with the incredible Sydney Dance Company for a workshop!

Year 6 Production ‘What A Knight’ – Our Year 6 wizards and warriors cast a spell on us with their spellbinding production of “What A Knight!” All Year 6 students actively participated in the production, giving everyone a chance to perform. It encouraged our girls to face their fears and build confidence before entering Senior School. 

IGSSA Dance – We were proud to host the IGSSA Dance Festival this year at our Joy Shepherd Performing Arts Centre! Our dancers moved with fluidity and expression, telling stories through choreography and transcending words. The IGSSA Dance Festival is a celebration of the art of dance, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Dance students, and a showcase of true talent within our community.

Year 9 -11 Production – The Year 9-11 Drama Students’ Performance of Girls in the Boat one-act play was incredibly captivating, showcasing our Drama students’ creativity and hard work. 

Annual Chidley Performance Festival – We held our third yearly Chidley Performance Festival this Term when kids from Junior Kindy to Year 6 performed for their peers and families. We were astounded by our students’ proficiency on every instrument, from the saxophone to the cello, and their bravery in performing in front of an audience!

WA School Jazz Festival – Swinging into success at the 2024 West Australian Schools’ Jazz Festival at WAAPA! The festival was a brilliant platform for our ensembles to showcase their skills in an exceptional venue surrounded by jazz energy. It was an evening filled with the infectious joy of music, where our girls not only played their hearts out but also had the opportunity to be inspired by the performances of others.

K-2 Athletics Fun Day – What a fantastic day of fun, fitness, and friendly competition we had for our Kindy to Year 2 students at the Athletics Fun Day! The little athletes showed off their skills in various events, and the joy on their faces was priceless. 

JIGSSA Cross Country – The energy was palpable as our students took the course with determination and spirit—a huge well done to all the girls who participated and showed incredible sportsmanship. 

SSWA Surfing Competition – For over two decades, surfing has been integral to St Hilda’s. It’s more than just a sport; it’s a way of life that improves balance, strength, and flexibility. It rewards perseverance, reduces stress, and adds an unparalleled dimension to the schooling experience. The SSWA Surfing competition showcased skill and spirit, with each surfer riding the waves with grace and determination.

IGSSA Athletics – A sea of determination, a skyline of dreams, and a track filled with the spirit of St Hilda’s athletes. This Term, we witnessed the epitome of strength, agility, and sportsmanship at the IGSSA Athletics Day. A special shoutout to Ms McGurk, our coaches and support staff who tirelessly guided and cheered our athletes on to place 3rd overall.

Combined Schools Parade at CCGS – We proudly participated in the Combined Schools Cadet Parade at Christ Church Grammar School this Term. St Hilda’s Cadet Unit has led the way for over seven years as Australia’s first all-female cadet unit. 

Year 9 Wandering Spirit – This Term, our Year 9 students stepped into self-discovery and growth at the Wandering Spirit Retreat. Wandering Spirit isn’t just a camp; it’s a transformative experience that celebrates the essence of our students and who they aspire to become. 

Year 10 Wooleen Camp – Our Year 10 trailblazers spent an unforgettable week through the heart of Western Australia’s breathtaking landscapes this Term. The Wooleen Expedition was a week of discovery, growth, and camaraderie as our girls navigated the rugged beauty of Wooleen Station. The Wooleen Expedition is a highlight of our Senior School experience, and this year was spectacular. Our girls returned with stories to tell, memories to cherish, and a deeper connection to the land and each other.

Year 12 Father-Daughter Dinner – A cherished tradition at St Hilda’s, the Year 12 Father-Daughter Dance this Term was a highlight for our Year 12 students. It was an evening filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories as our students shared this special moment with their fathers/father figures. 

CCGS vs St Hilda’s Netball Match – Our Year 12 Prefects took to the court this Term with hearts racing and determination in their eyes for the Christ Church Grammar School (CCGS) vs St Hilda’s Netball game. It was more than just a game; it was a battle of skill, strategy, and sheer comradery against the prefects of CCGS. This event is a highlight every year for our students, and this year was no different! 

Junior School Father’s Day – This Term, we celebrated Father’s Day with our Father’s Day morning tea. The air buzzed with laughter and stories, creating memories that would last a lifetime. As the morning ended, the smiles on every face were a testament to the joy and love that dads and father figures bring into our student’s lives. Thank you to all the amazing fathers and father figures who made today so special.

Junior School Grandparents Day – We celebrated the joy and wisdom of our grandparents at the Junior School Grandparents Day! It was a special day as our youngest students got to show their appreciation and share their love with their grandparents. From heartwarming performances to creative activities, it was a day filled with laughter, stories, and a special bond between generations.

From the classroom to the community, our students shared the spirit of St Hilda’s in all they did this Term. 

Anglicare Sleep Out – This Term, 23 of our remarkable Year 11 students stepped up to make a difference, participating in the Anglicare Sleep Out. Together, the girls raised an incredible $9507, showing their commitment to supporting homeless youth in Western Australia and placing us in the top 10 fundraisers. 

Junior School Book Week – Swirling through the corridors of imagination, our Junior School Book Week Parade this Term was a kaleidoscope of creativity and joy! From beloved book characters to literary legends, our students transformed into walking, talking pages of wonder. We were also lucky enough to have Renee Treml and Mark Greenwood visit. Their vibrant stories and captivating illustrations brought our students’ minds to life, igniting our students’ imaginations.
