Year 9: Discovery, Growth, and Empowerment<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n

Year 9 at St Hilda\u2019s is a pivotal year of self-discovery, skill-building, and personal growth. Through the Homeroom and Belonging program<\/a>, students begin to explore their identity, develop a deeper understanding of their strengths, and strengthen relationships with peers. A standout experience of the year is Wandering Spirit<\/a>, a year-long program that emphasizes independence, resilience, and self-care.<\/p>\r\n

The highlight of Wandering Spirit is the 9-day retreat at Yeagarup campus<\/a> in Pemberton, where students engage in transformative activities designed to foster personal growth and connection. In the tranquil environment, free from the distractions of technology and school demands, students explore themes like identity, respectful relationships, and authentic resilience. They sleep in chalets, working together as a community while developing their sense of independence.<\/p>\r\n

Students are encouraged to immerse themselves in a variety of cocurricular activities<\/a>, including sports, the arts, and outdoor pursuits. Lunchtime clubs and committees also offer opportunities to connect and explore new interests. The Year 9 academic schedule also allows students to further develop their talents through elective subjects, building on the foundation of their learning and passions.<\/p>\r\nSt Hilda\u2019s is proud to be the first independent school in Western Australia to deliver the micro-credentialled MoneyVest financial literacy program to all students in Years 7\u201312, ensuring they are prepared for life beyond graduation.<\/span>\r\n

Building on their experiences, students engage in a range of activities designed to foster personal development and social growth, including the Year 10 Outdoor Education<\/a> camp, work experience, community service<\/a>, and course information sessions to guide them as they transition to Year 11 and beyond.<\/p>\r\n

Throughout the year, students are encouraged to explore their interests and become active participants in all aspects of school life, both academic and cocurricular. A supportive Wellbeing program<\/a> ensures that teachers work closely with students, providing guidance and monitoring their progress<\/a>. Students benefit from guest speakers covering a range of relevant topics, including health and drug education, study skills, cyber safety, and friendship and life skills.<\/p>\r\nLife skills deserve to be front and centre for senior students as they prepare to step confidently into life beyond school. The seven-day mobile expedition at Wooleen Station in the Murchison is a key component of Year 10, where students put their outdoor skills to the test while facing personal challenges.
