The Action Takers<\/strong><\/h2>\n

By Year 5, girls at St Hilda’s are ready to shift from learning to doing. Literacy and numeracy foundations are in place. Curiosity is established. Perth parents looking for a girls school for Year 5 often find this is the right moment to consider a move. Our Units of Curiosity program extends into Year 5 and 6 with a different emphasis: student agency and contributing to the community with their learning. Knowing how to solve a problem is one thing, but bringing it to life is another. This philosophy underpins the ESSTEAM program<\/a> for these year levels.<\/p>\n

As an all-girls school, we proudly provide opportunities that empower our students to lead, serve, and support one another. Guided by our mantra of \u2018girls lifting girls\u2019, we are introducing a new Australian-first leadership program<\/a> for our Year 5 students. Delivered by members of the School\u2019s Executive Team, including Fiona Johnston, this internationally accredited program\u2014backed by Harvard research\u2014offers meaningful, evidence-based experiences that help students explore leadership in action and understand that true leadership extends far beyond holding a title.<\/p>\n

In Year\u202f5, students begin the formal stage of the non\u2011competitive Compass Award<\/a>, working together with students from Scotch College<\/a> to plan and complete a personalised set of meaningful activities across the four key areas of Health, Skills, Citizenship and Adventure. As they work towards earning their first Compass badge\u2014celebrated at a formal end\u2011of\u2011year ceremony\u2014they build confidence, independence and a strong sense of contribution through physical and mental wellbeing, practical skill development, community impact and exploration.<\/p>\n

Moving into the Senior Primary Precinct of the school highlights the importance of leadership with the older girls. Research suggests that for girls to learn how to be leaders, they need opportunities to practice leadership. By being on separate campuses, our Year 6 officials have the opportunity to hone their leadership skills by having dedicated leadership roles in the Junior School.<\/p>\n

Our Year 6 Production is also a highlight for the final year in the \u521d\u4e2d\u90e8<\/a>. Taking advantage of the \u4e54\u4f0a-\u8c22\u6cfc\u5fb7\u8868\u6f14\u827a\u672f\u4e2d\u5fc3<\/a> at our Senior School campus, every single girl has a speaking part and the opportunity to perform in this world-class facility.<\/p>\n

By senior primary, the girls have access to devices to support the teaching and learning program. A number of girls at this age also have access to mobile phones and smart watches for safety while travelling to and from school. These personal devices are signed in at the front reception at the beginning of the day and collected at the end of the day. Girls do not have access to personal devices during the school day.<\/p>\n

At St Hilda\u2019s, every girl is known, not just by name, but in the depth of her learning journey. Through intentional data tracking from the earliest years, we build a rich picture of each student\u2019s progress, strengths and areas for growth<\/a>. But it\u2019s more than numbers; it\u2019s about understanding the whole child. Academic data is paired with insights into wellbeing, engagement and social development, ensuring our staff can respond with precision and care. This approach allows us to personalise learning, provide timely support, and nurture each student\u2019s confidence as a learner.
