Learning opportunities beyond the classroom provide our students with experiences they might not otherwise have at school. The chance to travel outside the school community with their peers allows them to develop both personally and as a group.
Over the summer holidays, a group of our Year 12 students travelled to Japan for 12 days of exploring, skiing and cultural experiences. While in Tokyo, the girls spent a day at Disneyland, explored TeamLab and toured a miso factory, among other highlights. Following this, the girls spent 6 days in Hakuba skiing and snowboarding and were even treated to a traditional drumming show.
Opportunities like this afford our students:
Independence
For many students, this may be the first time they have travelled abroad without their parents. This allows them to develop independence as they learn to navigate new environments, problem solve and take responsibility for themselves and their belongings.
Cultural experiences and real-world learning
By travelling to a new place, students can experience cultural practices and traditions firsthand. They are truly immersed in the culture and gain an appreciation for the global community through real-world experiences. These encounters support the learning that takes place at school.
Stronger relationships
Travelling with their peers allows students to develop stronger bonds and connect with students they might not usually have the opportunity to engage. They make memories that they will hold onto and remember fondly for many years to come. When returning to school, these bonds carry over into the classroom, where students have a greater connection with and an appreciation of their peers.
Confidence and personal growth
By stepping out of their comfort zones, students realise their potential, gain self-confidence, and experience personal growth. They develop leadership qualities that stay with them even after returning to school. These leadership qualities paired with the tightened friendship bonds provide an example for other students to follow, creating a closer school community.
Rejuvenation
Ahead of their final academic year, the tour offers students an opportunity to refresh and rejuvenate before completing their secondary school studies. They return to the school energised and ready to take on the busy school year.
