Tilly Banfield announced as a Rookie Signing for the Freo Dockers

Congratulations to Matilda Banfield (2023) on her Rookie Signing with the Fremantle Dockers!

With a strong background in elite-level hockey, featuring in multiple Hockey Australia Women’s Future Squads and as a train-on for the Perth Thundersticks Women’s team in 2024, her talent and dedication have set her apart.

Tilly’s AFL journey began at St Hilda’s, where she represented the school in IGSSA and played in the inaugural IGSSA Allstars AFL team. Her sporting pedigree runs deep, as the daughter of Old Scholar, Gemma Banfield (Muller, 1993) and granddaughter of Diane Banfield (Walker, 1963).

In August 2024, Tilly returned to St Hilda’s for the unveiling of the new AFL posts on the Junior School oval, a project made possible by the Year 6 ‘AFL Gals’ team, who won the “Leave it Better” ESSTEAM pitch. 

Installing these posts allows young athletes to develop their AFL skills and aligns with St Hilda’s inclusion in the new IGSSA AFL Senior School Competition.
