At St Hilda’s, National Boarding Week is a moment of reflection for everything that makes our boarding community so special.

This week, we proudly celebrated the vibrant spirit and strong sense of community that defines our boarding experience. The week’s highlights included an interactive visit to the Instructa Truck, where students gained hands-on insight into truck driving, and a meaningful Boarding Assembly led by our dedicated Boarding Officials.

Our boarders also enjoyed a delicious cupcake afternoon tea and an exceptional Chapel service reflecting their diverse hometowns. The celebrations continued with a much-anticipated Borders’ Dinner, a quiz night and an ice cream truck.

From friendships that feel like family to life-changing academic and personal opportunities, boarding at St Hilda’s is about belonging, thriving, and becoming.

Boarding at St Hilda’s: A Home Away from Home for Your Daughter

Since 1906, St Hilda’s has been a home away from home for girls from regional, remote, and international backgrounds. We’ve proudly supported generations of boarders to become confident, compassionate young women, equipped to shape extraordinary futures.

Why Choose Boarding at St Hilda’s?

Academic Excellence Meets Personal Growth

At St Hilda’s, we understand that education is more than just what happens in the classroom. Boarding girls are supported by a dedicated team of professionals who foster strong study habits and provide academic guidance to help each girl reach her full potential.
Our girls also enjoy access to various extracurricular activities, from sports and performing arts to leadership programs and community service. Our focus on wellbeing is integral to everything we do, ensuring a balanced life where your daughter thrives academically and personally.

Leadership and Peer Support:

Boarding isn’t just about learning, it’s about leading. Our Year 11 boarders mentor the younger girls, providing them with peer support and ensuring a smooth transition to life away from home. With Dean of Boarding, Rachel Stenslunde, living on-site, our girls always have a caring adult to turn to for guidance and support.

A Focus on Wellbeing:

Wellbeing is at the core of our boarding culture. With access to structured study time, fitness programs, and wellness initiatives, your daughter will learn valuable life skills beyond academics. From creating healthy routines to balancing leisure with study, we ensure each girl has the tools she needs for a successful and fulfilling life.

Building Independence:

Living away from home helps girls develop independence, responsibility, and time-management skills. As they grow through the years, boarders become confident, self-sufficient young women ready to face the challenges of university and beyond. Our supportive environment encourages girls to take initiative and build resilience for life’s challenges.

Boarding Life: Beyond Academics

Opportunities to Explore Passions:

Whether your daughter is interested in sports, the arts, or entrepreneurship, St Hilda’s boarding house offers the facilities and encouragement to explore and develop new passions. Boarding girls benefit from proximity to state-of-the-art facilities, whether in sports, art, or science, allowing them to take full advantage of every opportunity St Hilda’s offers.

A True Sense of Community:

Boarding isn’t just about structure; it’s about creating lifelong friendships. Your daughter will form strong bonds with other girls in the house, whether it’s through movie nights, weekend outings, or impromptu adventures. With an active weekend program and the support of our boarding staff, girls quickly feel part of a second family.
