By embedding leadership capability across academic, cocurricular and community contexts, we prepare your daughter to lead with clarity, confidence and purpose in an increasingly complex world.
Throughout her journey at St Hilda’s, your daughter experiences leadership in authentic, everyday moments. She may lead a class discussion, mentor a younger student, welcome a new girl, captain a team, contribute to a committee or volunteer for a cause she believes in.
These incidental leadership experiences occur across all year groups. They build confidence, collaboration, empathy and character in meaningful ways.
We value these moments deeply. However, we also recognise that incidental leadership alone is not enough.
Research shows that girls’ confidence to lead often declines during adolescence. Potential does not disappear. Belief does. That is why we are strengthening our approach through intentional leadership education.
As part of our Leaning into Girls’ Leadership commitment, we are piloting three structured leadership programs in Years 5, 7 and 11.
Year 5 – Funny Girls
In Year 5, students participate in the internationally recognised Funny Girls, a program developed out of Harvard Research. Through improvisation and experiential learning, girls develop confidence, resilience and collaboration in a joyful and courageous environment.
Your daughter learns to trust her voice, think creatively and step forward with authenticity.
Year 7 – Lean In
In Year 7, all students engage in Lean In. Delivered within the weekly timetable, this program strengthens inclusive leadership capability and equips girls to challenge limiting stereotypes at a pivotal stage of adolescence.
Year 11 – Purposeful Leaders Program
In Year 11, students may elect to participate in the Purposeful Leaders Program, delivered in partnership with Future Female Leaders WA.
This industry connected cocurricular experience develops practical leadership skills, professional networks and the clarity to step confidently into life beyond school.
Leadership also means leading your own life with independence.
From Years 7 to 12, our MoneyVest program provides structured financial literacy education. Your daughter learns to budget, invest, evaluate risk and make informed decisions about money.
Financial capability builds confidence. When girls understand how to manage and grow their finances, they gain the capability to shape their own future.
Leadership is also embedded within our ESSTEAM™ program, one of Australia’s largest school based entrepreneurship programs.
Through sustainability driven problem solving, your daughter identifies real world challenges, designs solutions and pitches ideas. She learns to collaborate, take considered risks and influence change.

Leadership at St Hilda’s is structured, research informed and embedded across Years 5 to 12. We combine identity development, financial literacy, entrepreneurship and industry partnerships to ensure every girl develops confidence and agency.
Students participate in the Funny Girls program in Year 5, Lean In in Year 7, and may elect to join the Purposeful Leaders Program in Year 11 in partnership with Future Female Leaders. Leadership is also embedded in MoneyVest and ESSTEAM™.

No. While students can hold formal leadership positions such as Student Councillor or Prefect, leadership at St Hilda’s is viewed as a mindset available to every girl.
