A Future Swimming Career Made Possible at St Hilda’s

Meet Alana, a talented Year 8 boarder from Port Hedland at St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls, whose dream of becoming a professional swimmer is becoming a reality.

St Hilda’s offers outstanding swimming facilities, academic support, and a strong boarding community, all of which have helped Alana grow as both a student and an athlete.

How St Hilda’s Supports Student Swimmers

How have the opportunities at St Hilda’s helped your growth as a swimmer, and how has boarding enabled you to pursue your goals?

Alana: “St Hilda’s has significantly helped me grow as a swimmer. Living on campus, right next to the pool, means I can train more often while staying on top of my schoolwork. Training alongside other swimmers keeps me motivated, early mornings are easier when you’re not doing it alone.

The boarding staff also support me in attending competitions around Perth, something I couldn’t access while living regionally. They’re always happy to help with travel planning and make everything easier.”

Balancing Academics and Swimming at St Hilda’s

What’s it like balancing school with a rigorous swim schedule, and how has the boarding community supported you?

Alana: “Even with multiple training sessions a week, I always make it to evening prep. Tutors are always available when I need help, and even if I get back late from training, the boarding mums make sure dinner is waiting. I feel really supported, both academically and emotionally.”
