From robotics and debating to music, sport and creative arts, cocurricular opportunities at St Hilda’s Junior School help girls discover their interests, build confidence and develop skills that extend well beyond the classroom.
Every girl has different interests, strengths and talents. Some thrive on the sporting field, others love performing on stage, solving complex problems or expressing themselves through art. At St Hilda’s Junior School, we believe every girl should have the opportunity to explore these interests, discover new passions and find where she belongs.
Our extensive cocurricular program offers a diverse range of activities before, during and after school, creating opportunities for girls to challenge themselves, build friendships and develop confidence in a supportive environment.
Sparking Curiosity Through Discovery
Learning doesn’t stop when the classroom bell rings.
From STEM Club and robotics to LEGO Challenge Club and forensic science workshops, girls are encouraged to ask questions, experiment and think creatively.
These hands-on experiences provide opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering and problem-solving in engaging and practical ways.
For girls who enjoy exploring ideas and expressing their opinions, Debating Club develops communication, critical thinking and teamwork, while French Club introduces language and culture through interactive activities.
Each experience helps girls discover what interests them and builds the confidence to embrace new challenges.
Creativity, Expression and Confidence
Creative expression plays an important role in helping girls develop their individuality and confidence.
Through Art Club, Visual Journalling, Drama Club and dance, students can explore their imagination, express their ideas and develop new skills.
Our Music program offers opportunities to participate in choirs, concert bands and instrumental ensembles, including Camerata Strings, String Stars, Chinese Guzheng Ensemble and Taiko Drumming.
Whether performing for an audience, creating artwork or learning an instrument, girls experience the satisfaction of developing a skill, working towards a shared goal and celebrating their progress.

Building Teamwork Through Sport
Sport is about much more than winning. It teaches girls the value of perseverance, teamwork, commitment and supporting one another.
At our Chidley campus, girls have access to excellent sporting facilities and a broad range of recreational and competitive opportunities.
From basketball, swimming, water polo and tennis to gymnastics, athletics, soccer and other team sports, there are opportunities for girls with different interests and abilities.
As a member of the Junior Independent Girls’ Schools’ Sports Association (JIGSSA), our upper primary girls also have opportunities to represent St Hilda’s in interschool competitions.
These experiences help girls develop physical skills, resilience and confidence, while building friendships and a strong sense of belonging.
Supporting Wellbeing and Connection
Not every cocurricular activity needs to be competitive or high energy.
Programs such as Mindful Moments provide opportunities for girls to slow down, enjoy creative activities and connect with others in a calm environment.
Across our cocurricular offerings, girls can develop friendships beyond their classroom, connect with students from different Year groups and discover interests they may not otherwise have explored.
Importantly, we recognise that every girl is different. Finding the right balance between learning, cocurricular activities, friendships and downtime is an important part of supporting her wellbeing.
Every Opportunity to Grow
At St Hilda’s, our cocurricular program is delivered by specialist teaching staff and carefully selected external providers, offering girls access to a diverse range of experiences and expertise.
While the activities available may change throughout the year, our commitment remains the same: providing opportunities for every girl to explore her interests, discover her strengths and grow in confidence.
Because sometimes, discovering a new passion begins with simply having the courage to give something a go.
