On Thursday 26 June, the School will run a Tuesday timetable.

A quick reminder to our community that the Uniform Shop carpark is strictly for Uniform Shop customers only. Please avoid using this area for school drop-off or pick-up, as it causes congestion and access issues for families needing to shop.

We’ve also had an increase in secondhand items being left at the front door outside of opening hours. To ensure items are processed appropriately and not left exposed to the elements, we kindly ask that all donations or secondhand items for sale be dropped off only during opening hours – Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday, 8.00am – 4.00pm.

Looking ahead to Term 3, the Uniform Shop will be open on Monday 21 July from 8.00am to 4.00pm to assist with any back-to-school needs.

On Friday 27 June our Semester 1 Reports will be released via SEQTA. Parents will be informed via an APP notice that the report is ready to be viewed and downloaded. We are pleased to share in advance that you will notice some new features. These modifications are based on the feedback from our parent MMG survey in 2024.

Dear Families, 

As we wrap up another joyful and inspiring week at school, I’d like to share a special message that was delivered during this week’s chapel service. The theme was “The Invisible Helper”—a concept that resonated deeply with both students and staff.

We explored the idea that joy and surprise often come from the kind and thoughtful actions of others, especially when those actions are done quietly and without recognition. Whether it’s a helping hand, a kind word, or a thoughtful gesture, these invisible acts of kindness can lift spirits and brighten someone’s day.

Our students have been challenged to become Invisible Helpers—to look for opportunities to bring joy to others without seeking praise. As adult role models, we have a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate this in our daily lives. Imagine the ripple effect if we all embraced this challenge together!

Let’s work hand in hand to foster a community where kindness is quietly powerful and joy is generously shared.

Spotlight on Junior Kindergarten

Our Junior Kindergarten students have been busy with a fantastic hands-on learning experience that began with building a castle using magnetic blocks. Their creativity quickly expanded into constructing a ramp for cars to enter the castle, followed by a road complete with speed humps, corner turns, and an extension that spanned the classroom!

This evolving activity engaged nearly the entire class and offered a rich array of developmental benefits:

• Turn-taking and sharing
• Understanding spatial relationships and shapes
• Speech and vocabulary development
• Eye tracking (essential for reading)
• Collaboration and teamwork
• Building pride and confidence
• Fostering a sense of belonging and achievement
• Peer mentorship
• Number and estimation skills
• Science concepts (ramps and movement)

It was a joy to witness the students’ enthusiasm, problem-solving, and teamwork. These moments of play are powerful learning experiences that build foundational skills in a fun and meaningful way.

A Thought to Carry into the Weekend

Let’s all look for ways to be Invisible Helpers in our homes, workplaces, and communities. A small act of kindness can be a big surprise—and a lasting joy.

In Term 3, we will conduct ICAS assessments in English, Mathematics and Science for students in Years 2-6. ICAS is an online academic competition that allows students to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills. Term 2 Week 9 Program

Winter Holiday Program

Dear St Hilda’s Community,  

With one more week to go before the school holidays, the Senior School is not showing any signs of slowing down.

This week has seen the following events take place:

• Year 10 Career Counselling
• A MADALAH Education Day
• Post School Production Party
• Celebration of Languages Week
• Our Year 11 cohort held a Community Service Bake Sale
• Year 12 Japan Ski Tour Information Session
• The Music Department hosted the annual Ensembles Concert
• Auditions commenced for the Year 9-11 Production, and
• The OSA Career Expo was held for students across Years 10-12

Two additional highlights: on Monday, over one hundred of our students participated in the IGSSA Cross Country. The weather was great, and the atmosphere was wonderful, with many supporters cheering on trackside. St Hilda’s achieved some incredible results, which are showcased below. Gratitude and appreciation must be extended to our coaching team, including Head of Sport Kobie McGurk, and Cross Country coordinators Zoe Timmers and Michael O’Sullivan. Congratulations to everyone who participated and to MLC for taking home the overall trophy, their first in 32 years!

Results

And finally, this week marks the end of the 2025 rowing season. Our Rowing program, which facilitates close to 100 rowers per season, is unlike the boys’ schools that train during the warmer summer months. Our girls rise early to train in the dark, braving the cold, wet, and often gloomy winter mornings, displaying exceptional grit and commitment throughout the winter season.

At St Hilda’s, we are committed to cultivating a culture of teamwork, respect, and excellence. Our Rowing program exemplifies these values, providing a supportive community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about the sport. The season culminates tomorrow at the annual Head of the River at Champion Lakes Regatta Centre. This event is the highlight of the rowing calendar and showcases the hard work and perseverance of our rowing squad. Thank you to the Rowing Committee for their support this season, in collaboration with Head of Sport Kobie McGurk, Head of Rowing James Rees and Rowing Coordinator Jerram Gibson. Racing will commence at 8.30am with the annual Old Scholars race, with the final race of the day, the Senior 1st VIII race, taking place at 12.05pm, program linked here. All races can be viewed via livestream here. We look forward to cheering you on and celebrating the end of the season at the rowing dinner on Saturday evening.

Key information for the Interhouse Athletics Carnival:

Transport 

• Students are to make their own way to and from the Carnival. Please arrive by no later than 8.10am
• For students who booked a seat on the bus, the bus will depart the School at 7.30am from Palmerston Street and return to Palmerston Street by 3.25pm.

*Please note after school buses will run as normal from School.

What to wear

• Students are to wear House shirt, PE shorts, PE socks, runners, School cap and School tracksuit in case of cool weather. St Hilda’s compression shorts may be worn. No other branded bike shorts can be worn and no IGSSA shirts please
• No streamers, zinc, body paint or body suits are permitted. Students are also reminded to be prepared for all weather conditions (rain jacket /sunscreen). Students will be given a competitor number which will be written on the back of their right hand
• Students are permitted to wear athletic spikes while competing. Only Christmas Tree or Pyramid Spikes are permitted.  Track spikes must not exceed 7mm. Field spikes must not exceed 9mm except for javelin and high jump which must not exceed 12mm. Sharp spikes that may penetrate the stadium are not permitted.

What to bring

• All students are to provide their own lunch and snacks (nutritious food and plenty of fluids)
• Any medical supplies such as Ventolin or EpiPen
• All phones are to be kept safely in bags throughout the day. Students using phones on the day risk having their phones confiscated.

Refreshments

• Kiosk facilities will be available from 9.00am for parents and students (limited menu). There will also be a Boost Juice van.

Parent/Guardian attendance

• Parents are welcome to attend. We request that parents sit in the designated grandstand seating area, at either end of the stands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Interhouse Athletics Carnival compulsory?

• Yes, all students are required to attend. There are no timetabled classes at the Bay View campus.

How do I find out what events my child is competing in?

• Students’ entries are coordinated by House Coordinators. Students will be informed of their events in Homeroom time in the lead up to the event.
• Event information will be shared with students electronically on Friday 20 June.
• The full program is linked above and is also available via the School APP.

Who should I contact if I have a question regarding my daughter’s events?

• Please let the school know in advance via their House Coordinator and the Student Wellbeing Centre. On the day please sign your daughter out/in of the carnival with Administrative Assistant, Denise Ellis Brice who will be based at the stadium.
